Cause of the disease

Filariasis, also known as elephantiasis, is a disease caused by parasites known as nematode worms. The parasite that causes this disease is Wuchereria bancrofti.

Vector

This type of microorganism has the mosquito as its vector. Culex Quiquefasciatus, popularly known as mosquito or muriçoca.

Filariasis Symptoms

In the acute phase, the main symptoms of this disease are: inflammation in the lymphatic system, fever, headaches, malaise, etc. Months or years later (when the disease has already become chronic) other symptoms may arise such as: swollen limbs (breasts for women and testicles for men), infectious skin diseases and fat in the urine. In its most severe form, excessive limb size (elephantiasis) may occur.

Streaming

Its transmission occurs through the mosquito bite, which transmits the parasite that causes the disease from person to person.

Once infected, the person should undergo medical treatment, where appropriate medicines will be indicated according to the effect on the body caused by the parasite.

Prevention

The best measure against this disease is still prevention, which should be avoided by avoiding exposure to vector mosquitoes.
